kids and photographs

Here's a picture of some of my students. I was trying to get them together to have a group picture for our newsletter. This is one of my 15 tries to get the perfect shot. Of course it doesn't have the whole group but it's interesting how much you can tell about kids (or anyone for that matter) from their photographs.

The boy in red - K.T - Mr. ping-pong ball - the most hyperactive kid in my little 2nd gradeESL class. Here he is, caught in the middle of his "sit, stand, sit, stand, sit, stand" routine. Favourite line from an English song "Do the hoking poking" (do the hokey- pokey!!!)

boy in yellow - Y.S - Mr. class clown; and winner of the "best girl teaser" award; Thinks that he can get away with any kind of behaviour just by saying, with the most innocent face, "I nont no Engerrish" (I don't know English)

boy turning behind- J.Y - Mr. never-know-where-his-hands-have been. every year i get one of these; brilliant but extremely distractable; has frequent 'ah-ha!' moments (moments when something finally makes sense) ; never get too close 'coz the bad breath will blow you senseless! favorite English song "one, two, pee, po, pibe lille shingers" (1,2,3,4,5 little fingers)

Girl in blue - H.K - Miss. Stubborn as a mule; thinks action songs are only for pre-schoolers and not grown up second graders; drama queen of the class; favorite English line "Teacher, may I bathroom?"

Girl in white - S.A - Miss goody two shoes; teacher-pleaser; Mom usually dresses her up as though she just might have a fashion pageant happening at school (although on the day this pic was taken, she wore normal clothes) ; favorite English word 'to' ( dint you know? 'to' can be substituted for any English word, and every sentence could begin and end with 'to'!!!)

Girl in orange - M.B - Miss.can-u-guess-what-I'm thinking; painfully shy with an attitude to match; has to be wooed into participating in class; hates homework; thrives on compliments and has the sweetest smile. favorite utterance "hmmm"

Girl in pink - J.H - Ms.Kindness & Smiles; knows that the best way to wrap the teacher around her lil finger is to smile sweetly before answering any question; loves pink to the extent of having clothes in no other color! will sing and chant at the top of her voice, but to hear her speak, you'd have to camp under her mouth. Favorite English 'sentence'- " is Means?" (this means?)

Overall, I love my unique kids. They are truly one of a kind and keep me happy and occupied.... never a dull moment when you are a teacher!
